Depends on how much oil you want to take with you.......I just use the stock Yamaha one!

so its just there to hold the oil thats it. reason i ask is becouse i wanna install an oil cooler instead of the tank.

The "tank" on a stock XS is the engine...........Not sure what bike your on about!

and yet the "lol" seems to suggest you didn't try very hard. Laughing

There is no external oil tank on an XS. All oil is contained within the engine. If you're working a chop and are seeing oil tanks on other bikes, they're fake, used to hide the electrical bits.

If you're going to run an oil cooler, I suggest looking into the high performance oil pump sold on Mikes. You can do a search in the forums and read up on the use of a cooler and the hp pump, if you haven't done so already. The reading is very informative and may address some things you haven't considered, such as changes in oil pressure and volume, stress on the existing pump, how it may affect sump filtering, etc.
