Howdy everyone I am new owner of a XS 650 not sure of the year but it has metal side covers. 75 or 78 not sure what model letter either. Is there a data base for serial number search? I am off to search the database for ignition trouble shooting.

Welcome scout,if Jayel's post doesn't help you, click on the Mike's ad in the upper left corner here. He does a good job of making the I.D. of the bike easy.

Pics soon. It is just an unmolested stocker right now unworthy of pics. I go it to fire this morning for the first time thanks to the excellent search engine and trouble shooting the ignition posts. I was starting to wonder if i got the cam aligned correctly after putting new rings in it. Turned out to be old points that I was able to file and clean. I guess I need to order some replacements. javascript:emoticon('post',%20'message',%20'')

unmlolested but neglected. I really like the look of the first years. I think of mine as a transitional style from classic to custom/specials. Any tips for breaking in new rings on honed barrels out there?

Skull's right, go for a ride. Keep the rev's varying, & not at a steady speed. That let's the ring's seat with different amount's of oil on the cylinder's as well as varying temp's. Don't just do the city or just the freeway, do some of both. I don't know if your Portland is Maine or Oregon, but the ride should be great any where.

I rode it a little tonight up and down the street. These are pretty snappy bikes. Nice torque.
