Do these airboxes come stock with a joint in beetween them. Are they joined in the middle or open to the air inbeetween the 2?

# 32 in Jayel's diagram is what you are talking about? It is made of plastic & has 'o' ring type seal's. I just recently got one for my '80-G model.

I attached the 2 air boxes in the center and am finally showing some color on my plugs. At least I think that is why, I haven't gone for a parkway ride yet. It even sounds different I'm looking for good performance and mileage and I think the open inside was letting in to much air for my carb set up. I'll post sure results when I get a good ride in. I finally have a good battery also but I am a bit timid of riding since my wipeout.
