When i removed the left side engine case cover, I noticed a small notch at the bottom of the cover. Should this notch be there or does it serve a purpose? I haven't noticed any oil leaks coming from it.

Thanks

I see your a bit concerned about your notch, as you've posted it twice now......

Aside from allowing the clutch to operate, all that cover does is keep your toes out of the spinning stuff!

Oil shouldn't get in there at all, only if you have a leaking seal! The notch might have been put there to monitor a leaking main seal perhaps?????
Bad news if you rip that cover off and it's full of oil!

Or as NJ said, space out your round alternator cover to ventilate your charging system (a worthy & easy mod), and you've got the perfect drain already in place!

Open the rest of the cover so the rotor and stator won't fry........... been that way for 66K... no fried stuff so far......... water seems to hurt nothing and what ever little bit goes in drains out the bottom and evaporates ......... no corrosion in there after 10 years.... I don't even cover it in the rain..........rode 4 hours last year in a torrent.... no bad things.......... originally I stuck a bit of duck tape under the seat but have never used it....... not for a dirt bike obviously.........bet it charges better at 130 degrees in there instead of 180-200.............

I have been meaning to do this mod. My shift lever seems closer to my cover than yours, though, John. Doesn't appear to have been bent...

John,
Around here they grow burley, LOTS of burley. I'd quit if that's all there was to smoke, s'ok for a chew in a pinch but it'll burn your lungs out to smoke it. Need to get some of that southern seed and figure out the proper cure.
It is one thing the deer won't eat and that's a plus.
