Hey guys,
Some of you may know that I just finished installing bronze bushing in my swing arm and now i'm working on getting the swing arm back on the bike.
I positioned the swing arm in place, with a little trouble from the thrust washers trying to fall off all the time, And began to put the pivot shaft through the swing arm.
Note: When the swing arm was on my work bench, i had no problem sliding the shaft through the swing bushing, bushings, and distance collar.
Now when i'm trying to slide it through it will only go the end of the bushing and i think the distance collar is stopping it from going any further.
I've seen some pictures where there is just one unit that goes through the swing arm that the pivot shaft goes through but mine is three separate ones like in the diagram below.
What should i do about this?

The bolt goe's thru all three on the bench, but not on the bike? It's got to be an alignment problem, probably with the distance collar. Try using something to hold all in align, 'cause that is a first for me.
Most problem's with the bronze bush are they are alot of tight & have to be reamed out a bit. That's why I got the needle baering kit. BTW, it work's great.

Interesting. I think most of us don't have part #5 on your diagram. I used a new bolt and had the original bolt to stick in the opposite side temporarily to help line things up. Maybe twist a Phillips screwdriver around in the opposite end to line things up some. Manipulate it and sight through it until you see a perfect circle at both ends, then try the bolt.

Yeah xjwmx I was beginning to think that most of you don't have part five after looking through as many picture as i could find.
I'm pretty sure you're right gordo, there's something wrong with the alignment and i could just not be getting it right.
With the distance collar, there is a lot of free space between the inside diameter of the swing arm and the outside of the collar. I'm pretty sure that it is supposed to be this way and that the space is supposed to be filled with grease.
aybe if i fill that space with grease before installing it might help keep it aligned also, hmmm

If you read thruogh the swing arm removal , inspection , and replacement that starts on page 130 and goes over to 132 you will read that they changed the two #5's and the #3 for a one piece bushing.
The XS1, XS1B, XS2 models had the three pieces. The TX and later have the one piece. If it gives you too much trouble to get together, You can replace it with a later style one piece.
