Long story short, I have been through the whole ignition system and everything checks out except for the tci. Without another bike to test it on I have no way of knowing for sure if it is bad, but I removed the transistor from the board and lo and behold it tests bad (conductivity from B to E and E to B). All of the other solder joints appear to be in good condition.

I have a couple quick questions:

1. Is the consensus to use to MJE5742 transistor and not the TIP120?

2. Digikey currently has a 2 month lead time for the MJE5742. Does anyone know of another supplier?

3. If somebody ordered an extra or two whenever they replaced theirs and they are willing to sell and send it to me, please send me a PM.

Try this site:

www.newark.com/on-semi...dp/26K4468

I received mine in a few days at a good price.

If any of you guys need your TCI repaired or tested, I have a test set for them and can repair most problems with them.
