I'm new to the forum and thought I'd drop in and say hi. I've got a 1979 Yamaha xs650 Special. Just blew the engine recently, so it is in the process of being rebuilt. Previous owner of a 2003 Kawasaki ZR7S and a 2003 V-Rod. Although this is a downgrade, I've gotta admit, it is one hell of a fun bike to ride!!!

Welcome fellow New Mexican! You can get lots of great advice here to help you get your bike on the road again.

Down grade to an XS? Some may beg to differ Wink The thing I'll say about the XS compared to the other bikes you had. On those other bikes you would probably have to go twice as fast to get the same thrill as you will get from the XS., when I think I'm going really fast and I can't even see anything out of my mirrors from the bike vibrating and my speed has not gone past 55mph, life is good!

Ha! I hear you there brother! It is definately a pleasure in it's own way and on it's own level..

Have you seen a lot of 650's around in Albuquerque? Or do you know if there are any 650 clubs here?

I acually got my bike last November and got it road worthy this spring, I've put about 700 miles on it so far. Now I know that may not sound like many miles but I do have a few other bikes that get some miles on them as well.

I think there are quite a few 650's out there, though I'm not sure if there are any clubs, have to do some research on that.

Yamaha 650 Society is national and there are some members in New Mexico:
159.218.3.3/650.htm

Best bet is to look into it, I'll be glad to help out if you wish and get your member coordinator in touch. Off the top I know of several in Gallup, Santa Fe, Farmington, Eagles Landing, Silver City come to mind. I'm a member coordinator for the Great Basin states.....UT, NV, WY, ID. Best, Blue
