Hello. 1973 TX 650

Last night was riding up a hill winding up pretty high RPMS. I heard a "noise" that sounded horrible so I coasted to a stop and took a break. Now as soon as I pull in the clutch I hear what sounds like someone rapidly tapping on the right side of the crankcase with drumsticks! Idling in neutral I don't hear the noise, and I don't hear the noise when I'm in 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, but as soon as I pull in the clutch I hear the tapping noise again. Coasting down a hill if I pull in the cluch and shift through the gears, 1st gear has the most rapid tapping and 5th has the slowest tapping. I have had the bike for about 8 months and have always had noticable clutch slippage that I couldn't ever seem to make up by adjustment.

Any ideas?

Well adjusting the clutch wont cure a slipping clutch (unless it was over adjusted & causing slippage that way).

Sounds like you need to remove the cover & have a look! Probably before you ride it again I'd say!

Hopefully I will have a crack at it today... I'm imagining a broken spring or something like that.
