Hello, Newbie to the forums but long time original owner of a 77XSD. Any suggestions on cleaning all the fins and surrounding areas on the upper motor? I thought about maybe bead blasting as I have a small portable sandblaster but thats real messy. So many nooks and crannies. Any Ideas?
Thanks

depends on how bad it is....

I had that issues and just folded a piece of thick sand paper in half and went to town on it.

is it hard work? yes but the end product looked really good.

Bead blasting would be the most efficient method of cleaning the upper end ,etc. I used a 50% mix ratio of medium bead and sand, gave a nice shinny appearance with a smooth surface feel. Just depends on how much elbow grease you wanna put into it.

Something I have been thinking about is my wife has a small steam cleaner . I might try that on it just to see what it does.

Simple Green is an all purpose cleaner. You can buy it in concentrate and mix your own or buy it premixed (more expensive of course) and spray it on. Places like Walmart or other places that sell household cleaners will sell it.

Mine were pretty corroded, Took some 120 grit emery paper with the cloth backing, cut it into strips about 1/2 inch wide, wrapped it around a set of long needle nose pliers, and went to town. Worked great.

A piece of rope, like clothesline maybe, soaked in your favorite cleaner is a good start. time consuming.
