Hi folks . I recently got a 1972 xs red and white and completely origional down to the tires. This bike had been sitting in my bosses garage in a dark corner for at least the last 25 years. The odometer read 6048 miles. Wish I could upload photos but no digital cam at the moment. Now for the best part ....He gave me the bike !! This thing had a perfectly clean and rust free tank and paint and chrome are in reasonably good shape. The chain and a few other items were horrible due to lack of maintenance but the only thing required to make it run was taking the carbs off and cleaning them and replacing the battery. I really appreciate all the veteran XS owners sharing the info in the vault as well as other areas on here. Without it I might still be scratching my head as to the health of the engine. Kudos guys on a great site!

Good on ya mate, congratulations on the score, nice one! Welcome to the site. I hope you've pulled both oil filters & given them a nice freshen up along with a good drink of Texas tea. The brakes would most likely need a freshen up, at least a fluid change after all that time.

Good luck with it & keep us posted. Oh, hurry up & buy a camera, you can afford one now you've got a free bike you lucky bastard! Wink

Cheers

Thanks guys really and yeah I quickly did an oil change and started into the brakes. Master cylinder was stuck tight and I have a caliper kit coming . Unfortunately I have to sacrifice some origionality to get function . These old master cylinders are scarce, need some idea of what may interchange . As for chopping on this bike thats not gonna happen. This thing is just too cherry for that. Any suggestions of a later cylinder for that front brake master cylinder?
