Just got my bike and the first time I opened up the cap, it sort of fell apart on me. I'ts pretty much done!

Gotta have a working gas cap to register the bike on-base so if anyone has a gas cap w/key that will work on a 83 Heritage Special, please PM me.

Make sure you have a good rubber seal. Not sure if that cap comes with one. You should be able to put your stock lock on the new one or have 2 different keys.

The new seal from Mike's is of a quality material. Not to bad to put on if that's all that's wrong with the cap. I suggest alot of silicone spray lube to ease the new seal in place. And do it at the same time, so you do not forget how it all goe's back together. You would need the part #20-0036, & the cap doe's have to come apart to replace the seal. Have yet to find a description on how to do it.

Note: We sell only original type gas cap seals and cannot guarantee durability of these rubber products for use with liquids labeled "Gasolene"
but whose contents are actually various Non original Dinosour products containing suspicious chemicals, Gasses and Alcohols mandated by the great leaders of the Obamastan republic.

The gas cap has fallen apart and seems to be missing a piece and has a broken latch spring so I'm thinking a complete replacement is in order.

I gotta say, this forum is pretty nice. Lots of friendly folks offering sound advice and assistance.

I'm happy to have found this place and happy to be here.

any thanks!

I replaced the seal on mine. The old one was in two pieces. There is a trick to taking it apart and getting it back together so PAY ATTENTION if you take it apart.

LDO, if the spring is broken, the cap will not close properly, and gas on the ball's is no fun. So a replacement is probably in order. I think you can swap your original lock into the replacement. A little patience goe's along way with the cap.
