Hi all,

I am looking for some help figuring out the model xs650 my engine is from. The bike I just picked up is a cheap chop that I plan to completely redo.

Anyhow, I can't get a serial number from the neck because the bike was raked and the number is gone.....is there anywhere else on the fram I can get a serial number.

Also, I think the engine is from a different xs.......I have the engine number which is 8U6-000177.

If anyone can tell me what model this engine corresponds to it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Berube, welcome to the site.

In the section named The Vault, you'll find some good info. It's kind of a best of collection in there. Plenty of other great threads around also if you read a bit!

Your engine number doesn't seem quite right, could the 8 be a 3?

If it's a 3, that would indicate a Canadian (and others) model XS650 SG 1980 model.

In standard trim, that would be a special, have TC Ignition, Mikuni BS 34mm carbs and would have been either black or red. Keep us posted with what you find, and don't be afraid to put up some pics. Cheers
