Anyone ever try mounting the motor on rubber bushings to reduce vibes or do you think that could actually make it worse. I think those rubber mount mirror adapters make the mirror shake more.

Spent some grey matter on the subject of rubber mounting.....gave up.........would take some major frame changes and the top mount stiffens the frame as does the other motor mounts..........other means to reduce vibes do help.......tuning...""compression"" ....timing......balance......

pour your frame tubes full of lead shot like a dead blow hammer?
then it would weigh enough that it couldn't run fast enough for the vibrations to be a problem

I usually ride with a full face helmet visor down. I rode the other day with my scull cap,shh I don't think it is dot. What a difference I thought the bike sounded awesome with the full helmet all I really heard was that nice exhaust. With the skull cap like I hear the tires, chain, and a sewing machine then the exhaust.
The vibes are ok at cruise 4k rpm is 60-65mph. I wouldn't mind having mikes 5th gear though. I am 17-30 might try 18-30 but like the 17. ideally 17-30 higher 5th gear.

Hi Guys,
I wonder if anyone has been dedicated (foolhardy) enough to stuff an XS engine in a Norton Commando frame.....that would be a true nightmare, unless it actually worked, in which case it would be about the perfect set-up for the XS engine.
The Norton Isolastics work. They wear out, but they work, and above about 1900 rpms, there is no--*no*--vibration. And if it can eliminate the vibration from the two main-bearing 750 Norton twin, think what it could do for the XS!
Why, it could be boringly smooth! Naw--I'll take honest vibration from a nice vertical twin!

...barbara...bob trigg from nvt produced a prototype for yamaha in 1977 that was mounted isolastically in one of their own frames...unfortunately they didnt take this up-it is a damn sexy bike-ive seen it in the french alps...it would sell today still...tony hall from halco in england produced a few of these before he died that have become quite collectable...

They do Vibrate but they are not bad at all when setup and tuned. Geared up (need to be running right or they wont pull it) Carbs tuned and jetted properly, Timing retarded some. Tires Balanced.
There is a huge difference between a stock one and one that's set up right and how smooth they run. Way fun, 50 miles a day on mine. Still plenty left for me to do. But not even the same bike as it was 4 years ago as far as the vibes go.

Getting the balance between the sides is the best way to reduce the vibes. With Pamcopete's ignition so both sides fire at the right time, balance the carbs with a manometer really smoothed out mine.
I have a 17/32 sprocket set up cruises nice, still have plenty of the low speed grunt I like.

I actualy have my vibes in controll, I was just suprised how noisy the bike was when I rode with an open helmet, with the full face all I heard was exhaust.

You know, it's funny... I never thought my bike vibrated inordinately except with the choke on, before she warms up. And I find her rather smooth at speed. So now I'm wondering if I have actually done something right in my set up! Wonders never cease!
I have a half-helmet that I wore a couple of times, but in my case, the detractor was wind noise because of the open earflaps.
