6 6mm bolts hold the plate on (10mm wrench) BTW on some years you have to remove the sidestand leg to get enough clearance to remove the plate, just remove the stand bolt then unhook the spring, assembly is reverse hook spring, posistion leg, insert bolt

Might want to reinforce it with jbweld just to be safe. From reading this forum I understand that even the updated design filters tend to tear fairly quickly.

building a deflector seems to be the best to keep it from tearing Smile

Just wait for the engine to warm up before exceeding 3,000 RPM. Like, really warm up so the oil pressure and suction are at a lower level.

I rode my '78/E that way for 13 years and 60,000 miles. The screen I put on 13 years ago was still good when I changed it last year. This was one of the original design screens as well, not a reinforced one.

not enough to worry about then, I'd run it and check again next oil change , as long as you're not seeing aluminum shavings it probably just wasn't properly maintained by the PO, mine had the strings when I got it about the same milage , over 31k now no more strings, no chips and no noise, set the valves once a year and the cam chain tension every 1000 miles with the oil changes, good luck with the bike

On the front guide, I think it's the age of the part more than the miles. These bikes are 25 to 40 years old.
