Is there a paint code or formula for "Star Black" or would just plain old jet black do?
There almost appears to be a touch of metal flake or something in the stock paint...or is that just an illusion of 34 year old paint?

The paints I've tried to get over the years for yamaha's.........man what a hassle! You can try your dealer, but they'd have to be a good one to have the "recipie"!

The colour will be available through PPG (formaly known as ICI Autocolor). Though your average spray shop might not be able to find it! If you can find a bike only painter, or high end auto painter, they can usually find it on the data base. On the data base Yamaha has its own listing & "Star Black" should be on it! Not all painters have access to all the colours, but all good ones do!

Some shops might not be able to mix it, because 2pak wasn't around back then, once again a quality shop is the go! Also some original colours require specific undercoats & second coats, as this can be a part of getting the exact shade!

So if you want the exact colour, unless your in luck, expect to pay a fair premium for it!

I ended up just walking through some new car yards till I found a colour I was happy with, asked the dealer the name of the colour and went to the local auto store & got a litre of that. Minimul cost that way, up to you what you do, good luck! Cheers
