Well, I picked up a '79 Special Tuesday. This is my first twin, but it's not my first old bike. I've owned a few Honda CB400Fs and a couple '80 CB750Ks. I got the bike for a grand with right under 14k on it. It has aftermarket shorty mufflers on it, but it came with a nice original exhaust. Cool I plan to leave it stock except I'm gonna put some flatter handlebars on it and maybe upgrade to twin front discs at some point.

Anyways on to the pics, it's not even cleaned up yet. (yeah, I know about the dust cap Laughing ).

Nice find, a few of suggestions......
1. The mufflers look like old Harley Dynas, keep them if you like the sound.
2. Drop the rear with 11 1/2" shocks from MikesXS or Honda Rebel shocks.
3. Shuck the points and switch to a Pamco ignition.
4. Switch to a MikesXS oil cooler/filter set-up. (part #15-6504)
5. Change the handlebars to the XS1 style (MikesXS part #25-0652)
6. Enjoy the ride.

Welcome to the forum, study the Vault, lots of good info there.

Your bike looks great! I had the same buckhorn bars, switched to some lower ones, much more comfortable and enjoyable to ride! Welcome to the site, lots of great info here!

Welcome and you have a good looking bike there. Sounds like you got a good price too. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.
