Does anyone know what kind of performance numbers the XS 650's have? I put mine on a dyno and she ran 36 h.p. and 34 lbs of torque. Ive done a lot to mine and just kinda wanted to know if I made it better and by how much. Seat of the pants tells me "It worked" but I am still curious.

Factory specs say 53 horsepower, it seems as though you have gone backwards. How much did that cost you?

I am curious about that 53 hp. That sounds like engine horsepower to me, not at the rear wheel. A 1000cc sportbike ran right before me and only made 55 at the rear wheel. The book also says the bike will get 82 mpg's and we all know that isnt right. Its all about the context.

what was it? my buddy's 04 Zuki GSXR1000 made 148.6 rwhp with a slip on and my Ducati 999 made 128 rwhp with full exhaust and ecu. sounds like a shitty Dyno operator/unit or you got the # wrong.

I honestly didnt see the bike that ran before me, thats just what the guy said. I am starting to think that my numbers are about cut in half. I consistantly blow the doors off of Harley Sportsters and I know they are makin way more than 50 HP. I ported and polished the heads, gave it a cam, lots of carb work, and 2-1 pipes. That seems to have been the successful route for these motors. My ass dont lie either, she's fast. The oxygen readout on my exhaust was perfect as well. only one point touch in the midrange but I did that on purpose to keep her from getting to hot on long runs. Last year, when it was fairly stock, it wasnt this fast. I guess that is all that matters.

I've seen those optimistic #'s from Yamaha too, we all have. Full race xs motors back in the day where comming apart at anything over 70hp or so. I got about the same figure as you did on mine, but I did not have ported head. I was running a 2into1, filters, jetting and hi-out coil, think I got 36rwh and started out as 32? can't find the sheet, it was years ago. Will be doing some time on the dyno testing a few of my exhaust systems this summer, I do not expect any ground breaking #'s but I'll keep you posted.

Factory HP figures are the motor alone on the dyno. Figure roughly 20% loss to the rear wheel and the number isnt too far off. At best it should be in the 42 hp range at the rear wheel. Did the dyno operator correct the reading to sea level specs ? A good operator can make a huge difference in the numbers.

Actually oldkarkid Harley sportsters are putting out around 48hp according to harley davidson and that number I would imagine hasnt changed much over the years. a fatboy only puts out about 55hp.

Woodman, I do not believe the operator had the machine at sea level specs. We arent Denver by any means, but we are pretty far above sea level here in NE Nebraska. Like I said, it does run a hell of a lot better than stock. Dpmphoto, I kinda figured thats what harleys were runnin, and at my bikes slender 360 lbs wet, it makes her a lot of fun. I am glad to hear I didnt totally trash my bike haha. My 2-1 could be better, but ohh well. I get between 40-50mpgs depending on how I ride it, so I figured I couldnt be doing too bad.

oldcarkid the mileage spec is at 37 mph, probably at sea level on a flat level test track. If you could stand to drive around at 37 mph on a flat level road you could tell us if that number holds up.

My 95 Evo Fatboy started out at a dismal 46hp which is rediculous for that money. It was a flaming turd. About $2500 later it runs like it should have from the factory and makes 82.8 HP from 80 cubic inches at the rear wheel. I have 14 bikes and I love them all, they go from 120 hp big bore KZs to a 3 hp 48 Schwinn/Whizzer. A good dyno guy can help get the max power out of the motor. They can also make any number they want if they so choose like the portable dyno guys at Sturgis & Daytona that promise a 10hp gain.

Whizzer only runs 35 with my fat butt on it. Someone lighter might get a few more. Believe me, that about as fast as you want to go on one with hardly any brakes and bicycle tires. It is a kick to ride ! I do have the optional front brake, not just the rear coaster brake
