is it possible to run taper tips from mikes with stock headers and what would I have to do for them to mount up? I got a line on 2 for the price of one so if I can I would like to put them on. Thanks again... Smile

The stock pipe's are 'double wall', so there are holes in the outer pipe, you would have to fill the hole's( weld shut) for them to work properly. Otherwise they would be noisy & you'd get alot of popping on the decell.I think you would also need the reducer's for a good fit. They will fit & sound is good, I have them on Mike's two into one system.

where are the holes at?? are they on the inside of the headers or where? I have yet to have the exhaust off the bike so I am clueless as of now, plus I really don't want to spend the money for pipes that I will have to do a lot of work to the headers...

there are two hole's in each pipe, one at the top near where the flange is, the other is at the other end, near where they bolt to the muffler. Not really alot of work, just wanted you to be aware of them.

If your 77 headers are like my 75 headers, there is no hole where the mufflers go on. The inner and outer pipes are welded together on the muffler end. The stock mufflers just slip fit on the outer pipe and are clamped by the pclamp that holds the front of the muffler to the frame.
Depending on the tapered mufflers you get you may need to extend the header pipe back so the muffler clears the brake, foot peg. Most universal mufflers are 1 3/4 inch inside diameter. The head pipe is about 1 9/16 inch outside diameter. A spacer to fill the gap will be needed.
I have a set of take off Harley mufflers I am thinking of useing . I did a little test fitting and I bought a piece of 1 3/4 inch pipe 18 inches long at the auto parts store. I cut a coulpe pieces off the pipe about 6 or 7 inches long. The pipe fits the mufflers great. Not so great on the head pipes.
I have thought about useing a piece of a vegatable or soup can. They have a wrinkled part. I was going to cut the wrinkled part out , long enough to make the spacers to fill the gap. A little muffler pipe goop on the pipes and filler piece should seal it good.
