I have a 1981 xs650 special II. is it possible to strip off the electronic ignition and just go straight to points? I want to simplify my wiring. Is it possible to do this?

yes it is possible BUT you will need to find the ATU and rod, timing points plate, sets of points and condensers, and the seals for the cam shaft, there is no good reason to do it, the electronic ignition works fine and is less of a problem when it works correctly, there are several threads about how to check and repair the TCI, heck of alot easier than putting in points

You dont want points.Try one of pamco kits if your having problems. You can get the rod and everything else in a kit for like a buck 20 through mikes.I know some will argue for points but their just a bother.

well everything works perfect actually. i just didnt know if i was going to have room to stuff everything inside of those mock oil bags. i figure ill mount the elec. ignition to the new battery box i made, and just open up the oil bag at the bottom to run the extra wires. i guess it wont be so bad.
