It appears there are no decent mechanics in my area so I am forced to take things on myself;
so,which repair manual,Clymer,Haynes,Chilton or other?

I use a Clymer but I have been told that Haynes is the best.

its best to have more than one source of info, the Yamaha service manual and one of the others, the yam manual comes up on-line every now and again and I use the Haynes, seems to cover most things well

I have a Chiltons and a Yamaha Factory Manual. I like the factory manual better.

Factory manual, Haynes, Clymer in that order.....Here's a link to an online factory manual to get you by for awhile. Best, Blue

So-called mechanic finally replaced the alt brushes but still not charging.This after 3 weeks.i told him to check voltage regulator and clean rotor of grunge.Hopefully that will get done this week.
If this doesn't do it,I am guessing rotor or stator or both.This could run in to some serious coin.
I am open to suggestions for simple,reliable solutions.

It's most likely the rotor. If mikes is out of them (which he was last month ) there is another source in New England called Rick's. Google it and you should be able to find it. He will even send you a return label for the core. It will set you back about 150 bux.

Well I'm willing to pay for a factory manual for my 75 but can't find one anywhere, even on eBay though all the other years are there. Any leads?

I have the Clymer and a aftermarket tech tip called the joy of six written by a 650 club in missouri. It is pretty good and thanks to blubikerblan I now have a shop manual.
