I'm not sure you'll finish in 2009 either, looks like you have a ways to go, I guess it all depends on how much time you put into it! One thing I will say for sure is the carbs look fantastic!

Oh I have time,, just no money,,seems i take 1 step forward and 3 back,
I took the bearings out of the back wheel.along with the seals. and i went to order them, from mikes, he doesnt have the right side seal.
I took the tire off to put new spokes on, mikes dont have spokes.they list them, but when u go to order, they dont have them,..im taking the back rim, tank, side covers, with the head light bucket to get powder coated this week,

280,
Pretty cool! I saw the car battery for testing wiring, and the drop-light hung on the bike....it all looks so familiar. I love it.
It looks like a great project, and if I didn't have the '79 to play with just like you are doing, I'd be very jealous.....
Enjoy!

I started from the rear and worked to the carbs, thats as far as i got,, wheels in the basement, im taking the old clear coat off..and sanding rust off the spokes,,i'll havt that powder coated in s ilver, my dide covers, and tank will be a bright yellow..along with the head light buckets..for starters. once you start taking parts in for powder coating,. its hard to stop.the car behind the bike covered up. is all powder coated. well not the car it self. but everything else.rear end, to the engine,.. i dont need to paint any more.If i keep my bike. I might drop the swing arm again and have it powder coated instead of paint,,
lots of sanding,,

Just like the your project they start out as tiny fixes and end up a huge restore project! I can't help you make your project smaller, but I'm glad you have the time and I wish we both had more money! I thought I could get my bike going for alot less as I'm over double what I wanted to spend and I still have not purchased tires yet! The wife is not happy!

oh yeas,,, i been thier too with the car behind the bike,I did that when i was working and had money, not working anymore. living on my retierment, and doing the bike over when i have a few bucks,,well extra buck, i COULD have bought a new bike from what I lost in the past year in my stocks,so much for my retierment money,,,
all said and done, I still might scratch this whole deal. cut bait, and go buy a new bike,.after all..

I know I've spent probably more than I should on some of my projects, but for me I consider it hobby and a hobby that I really enjoy. I think in the end you will have a very nice bike, the 75 XS to me is a nice looking bike(stock).

Fellas... I can relate... if I had the cash, I'd go and buy me a shiny new bike tomorrow... problem is... even a 'cheap' bike payment is more than you'll put in to this ol' gal in a year... I look at it this way... last month I put nothing but gas into mine... I count that as a car.. or bike... payment saved...
Once it's 'done'... it will need very little, the savings come in the long run on old iron... on new plastic, the screwing comes in the long run... you still gotta make those payments long after the warranty runs out...

Hi Bob,
Well, when I restore a Brit bike, I keep telling myself how much better I will know the bike when I get the wiring sorted.....probably doesn't help, but it keeps me fairly sane.....
It's such a nice looking bike, I'm sure it will be worth the struggle!

Dang, Bob, I saw your pix and thought someone snuck in my garage and took pix of my bike. I'm at about same point of deconstruction ,as you except my tank is primed. Gotta push hard middle of June when I got some substantial free time. Good luck!
