Hi All: I wasnt sure where to post this so I thought I would do it here. I recently restored a 71 xs1b and the only thing left to really take care of is the stock seat. I noticed Mikesxs sells a replacement and I tried it last year but once I had the grab rail on it would not move far enough forward to work with the seat latch. Has anyone had luck with this seat from Mikesxs? I ended up returning it but now am wondering if I did something wrong or if it just isn't compatible with the grab rail. I can't live with the seat the way it is since it has turned into a fine powder and gets everywhere (including the air boxes). Thanks for any response you can give on the Mikesxs seat. John

John, I don't know about the seat from Mike's, but is there a local upholstry shop around? We got one here & he is very expensive, but his work is fantastic. He wanted $250 to do mine, but that was whatever I wanted to do to it. Leather, two stage (up & down), totally flat, with all new material, cushion foam & all. So look around, I'm sure you could find something. Oh, how is the metal pan? Cause you can get foam at Wally World, & material as well. That's what I did, look's good, too.

Hi Gordo, thanks for the reply. The Pan is so-so, which is why I was interested in the Mikesxs seat (plus the new foam of course). I'll check out Wally World too. I do have a guy in town that will doo the work but he is expensive and extremely slow.

There is a place near me that sells foam in all varieties and sizes, they have no website but here is a link to their contact information...
local.yahoo.com/info-1...burlington
Saddleman's in California will make a very nice cover that fits perfectly for around $70........
www.saddlemen.com/store/
or B&H Seatcovers custom makes them in many colors.....
www.motorcycleseatcovers.com/
I hope this helps
Jeff

Interesting.........
I have an xs1 as well and have thought about buying one of these seats.
The hinges all line up and the seat sits like its supposed too?
ine was recovered here in san diego by a local guy for about 110
Did a good job with white piping but the foam is getting old.

That is my problem - I bought the seat and it would not fit once the grab rail was installed, so I am trying to find someone who has had luck installing it on their xs1b. I must say that the quality of the seat itself was excellent.

I will have to face the seat isssue in the not too distant future...
I am wondering if you tried fitting the rail in both directions. I have an xs2; I put a Mikesxs grab rail on my stock pan and mounted it back to front the first time, it seemed logical that it slant backwards when mounted... I clued in when it didn't quite fit properly when closed. The rail should stand near vertical when viewed from the side.
Gotta have that grab rail, it just doesn't look right without it.

Yes, I ran into the same issue when I mounted the grab rail so I had to turn it around but it didn't make any difference. Unfortunatley when I pushed it forward it scratched part of my freshly powder coated frame which didn't please me, but no one can see it. You are right though, it just wouldn't look right without the rail.

I did ask Mikes if they could give me a name of someone they had sold the seat to and they referred me to their links section and said I should post on the forums. When I worte them initially about the seat not fitting they gave me their usuall response which is that they have sold many of them with no problem.

Hey tacoswild! Make sure you post back here once you have installed your seat with the grab bar attached. Let me know how it turned out and if you had the same issues. Thanks! John
