I'm starting another frame up TX650 restoration project and matching the paint will be a bear. If anyone out there has any real nice '73 sheet metal and / or chrome that they are willing to part with send me a PM please.

These people might be able to help you, even if you don't see the color here.

Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions. I found the correct paint and it is very spendy, so for now we'll concentrate on getting the frame together. Here are the latest pics with a trick I learned for mounting the engine without scratching up that fresh frame paint. Lay the engine down (oil drained out of course) on it's right side and lower the frame over it. The lower engine mount bolt is installed through a hole cut in the plywood table, the rear mount bolt installed and the entire assembly flipped upright and onto a shop jack for completion.
ore pics to follow as the build progresses
Jeff

Speaking of secrets, have you guys seen any of these down there? I would love to have a '73 in this color, it was only offered in blue here in the states. If I could find a part for one of these to match I would repaint my other TX

Notice the difference in the tank stripes, gonna be hard to find. It may be the same color that they used on the TX750's but I can't be sure.

A little more progress....... The paint match from the shop was wrong so I'm searching for sheet metal, still need a headlight bucket and a left side cover, either NOS or in excellent condition. PM if you got 'em.

Bump:
Still looking for a headlight bucket and left side cover. I found a NOS tank and it's somewhere enroute on the UPS truck.
Anybody?

Latest progress? None. The NOS parts order that I've been waiting 3 weeks for was cancelled by the vendor due to that fact that the parts have been discontinued by Yamaha. Well DUH!!! So why did they fall into my shopping cart when I was on their website? The answer was the standard "s*** happens". Thanks alot Cycle-Parts.com, see if I ever try to order anything from you again.
Which all turns full circle back to where I'm searching for a tank and headlight bucket again. I located and overpriced left sidecover from ebay so that is off of my want list now, but if anybody out there has these '73 parts that they don't need please get in touch with me before my build starts to transform into a Hanger Queen.

Dude, sorry to here about the setback. That really sucks. I'm always looking for parts to stockpile and if I come by anything I think you might be interested in I'll let you know.

Thanks Teebs, that deal with Cycle-Parts is really sticking in my craw right now. Looks like I'm gonna be leaning towards painting a tank and bucket to match the NOS parts I already have, but I see that paint prices are out of sight. So my first preference is to aquire new or nearly new stuff. The one shown in the above pics is an ebay tank that I bought for the cap and petcocks, the tank itself is kind of ratty. Oh well, such is life, on with the rest of the build. I won't need the tank until last anyway right?

Hi Nudude, try these folks; www.nwvintagecyclepart...model&i=11
I assume the tx bucket is a 256 part#, same as the xs1 ?
Tacoswild recommended NW Vintage, and I have bought a couple of items from them. Good people! I think their ebay ID is jgroom. I recall they had a headlight bucket in chrome listed a couple of months ago for $75... a Yamaha dealer upgrade, OEM 256 part.
Worth checking their overstock list as well.

JeffM:
I've done some business with Groom, in fact I just bought a few items from him last night. I'm totally satisfied with the results and plan to buy from him again. I did have that chrome bucket on my watch list for sometime but someone snapped it up a few weeks ago. I'm watching another right now, which would be a good factory alternative to the painted one but it's just my prefrence to have the blue bucket. As luck would have it I missed a NOS one on ebay about 6 weeks ago because I sat down to take a nap and slept through the auction, it sold for only $31. As far as the part #, you are right, it is a 256 part but the blue ones are scarce. I'm sure one will turn up again at some point, but even at my age I tend to loose my patience and get a little antsy once and awhile. I guess I'll just have to get over it and fill up a cart with new front end parts at Mikes for now. The '73 is a bastard year for the XS, a lot of dedicated parts for that year only (#366) I learned that when I built my first one, the next one I build will be a '74 or newer.
Some days you eat the bear and.............. well, you know!
y thanks go out to you guys for your concern.

Thanks skull, I saw them, pretty ratty looking. I've got NOS side covers, the bucket and tank are my main focus now. And a rear fender mount/grab bar, I have one but it needs rechromed.
Does Geoff Bamford sell parts or just collect them? I see he's down there on the upside-down part of the world, maybe you have had some dealings with him?
