Anybody got an idea what weight you can get a xs650 down to in basic street tracker trim?
Any tips or tricks to shed some pounds?
Thanks

I think a stocker is around 475, never had mine on a scale i would say around 450. Theres alot of flattrack racing parts for these or that you can adapt to them Speed cost, how fast you wanna go? I`ve seen some trick lookin trackers that are probably 400 or less. $$$

I'm not crazy about the FT look but the areas that need addressed are the rims, frontal section, chain, ect. you can easily drop 100 plus lbs but losing weight cost money and what is your limit and the effort of time your willing to put in it. My project should weight in at around 360 or less I 'm hoping..............Jack

I am still building, but have done all the obvious things:
- Ditch the electric start and fit a blanking plug
- Chuck away the wiring loom and all the electrics. Rewire as a chopper (plenty of info around in the interweb about how to do this)
- Cut / grind away all non-essential bits of frame. You will be amazed at how much extra stuff is welded on!
- Small gell cell battery
- Small after market headlights and gauges

If you are willing to spend the money then there is a stack of weight to come out of the wheels and brakes.

Mine are 405# and 394# and my dad's was 410# using stock electrical and battery box and keeping the electric start. The best places to shed those last few pounds are in the electrical system by going to kick start and gel battery and even replacing the alternator. I made mine out of a John Deere (Yanmar) tractor and it probably lost 5 pounds. Check with Sparx electrical in England for a light one that will bolt right on. They should be available real soon if not already available. They said after the first of the year last time I talked to them. It should be three phase and about 220 watts but shave a bunch of weight. The biggest savings of course is an aftermarket frame like a Shell, Champion or Trackmaster. Aluminum triple trees are a pretty big weight savings too but pretty pricy unless you can find some used.

The alternator is also a flywheel. Do you notice the bike revs more freely with the small alternator?

Where do you get the "gel" battery?

Dont forget the more weight you skim off the frame, the more you'll feel the vibration- all that flab soaks a lot of it up...

Gel batteries are available at batteries plus. They got some real small ones you can get. You can put them any which way in your bike.

Maybe sometimes the diet should be the rider and not the bike....I weigh 135 lbs and am thinking of eating rocks before I ride to keep the trucks from blowing me off the road.......Passing the rocks later may get ugly though.......

John, you only weigh 135? Damn, you should be a racer. No wonder you gear the thing like you do. It's like a bike going down the road with nothing on it. I'm 200 lbs, maybe that explains my 36 tooth rear sprocket. I wasn't sure if you were serious there or not.

For me 18/29 is geared to low....Have a 28 but the only problem is the stupid close ratio box. ..First gear will be my passing gear.....Dump a few rocks along the way to lighten the load......

Hey all,
I increased my horsepower to weight ratio by losing 35 pounds
since Jan. 6.
I still feel jipped. Men's Health said losing 30 pounds would make
John Thomas appear an inch longer.

Also consistent with the American Journal of Medicine that lack of movement can cause a slight swelling and should be attended to immediately….No wait-stop they may be talking about a Hemroid….
