I have ridden XS650's that were pretty smooth and others would blur
the guages as you feet vibrated off the footpegs. Well My XS650SG was somewhere in the middle but the vibration made me not want to ride it.
SOLUTION: I sent the crank and pistons to Falicon to balance it and they removed 75 percent of the vibration but they also removed 400 bucks from my pocket. I still don't regret it since I plan to ride my 650 till
death do us part. They actually place dumbweights where the rods go and spin it at 500 rpm and grind it until balanced. Runs smooth now. Old Yamaha Mechanic John Underwood

Falicon's been doing great work for decades; I envy you, John! I've put the dial indicator on a fair number of stock cranks, and there's the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Thanks for the tip on Hanson Racing, Jack. Whose rods do ya like?

Falicon is a shop in Florida that does balancing. They do a
good job of removing most of the vibration and some of your
money but if you plan to keep the bike it is worth it. Have to
send crank and pistons and they did mine in a week. Havn't thought
much about phasing since I like the way mine runs and I wouldn't
want it to sound rasty like a Harley anyway. Seems like a lot of work too. Cams Ignition and all. Simple balance was expensive enough
for ole cheepies like me. Old Yamaha Mechanic John Underwood

John.........Thats a great pointer, it would be difficult to haul a trailer packed with tools behind a XS for a week end ride in fear of a break down Laughing Where do you live in NC? I live in Weaverville. I'd like to check your ride out some day or do you attend any of the Society Ralleys? I emailed Falicon yesterday and your right it's not cheap but for me it out weights the advantage in performance in reducing the vibes and extending engine life...............Jack
