bought this a year ago and it had new rings and valve work done by a old guy that flat tracked in the 70's.
this is the First time I tried to start it
most xs's will normaly start better by kick starting, this one fired right up and idled with the electric starter and the air temp was about 40 to 45 degree's, After idleing for a while I saw that the right cyclinder was cold, Pulled the points cover and sure enough the top or right cyl was not sparking, probably coroded points, haven't gone any further to see why the right was not firing. its just amazing how smooth they can run on one cyl

until they start spitting oil out the exhaust port and blow your exhaust gasket

that might be but I don't think that in the 50 to 60 seconds I ran it at a idle that it would

My 77 did the same thing.. I filed the points, re-gapped and now it runs like a top.. OK a top with some carb issues.

my first 650 a 1979 I still have and drive was the same, I put new points in and she ran like new after I cleaned the carbs
