My left outer fork tube has a chip on the inside lip, which causes it to leak a bit. The seal won't... seal.

I purchased a NOS tube using the part # on Yamaha's site. It arrived today and it has the bosses for brake calipers. Perplexed, I thought I either used the wrong part number or they sent the wrong part. Nope. 70-76 lists the same part number.

Ok, so 70-76 are all 34mm, but the 70-74 don't have the extra bosses on the left? Which means that 75-76 are 34mm, but DO have the extra bosses.

y cycle is a '72, so it didn't have those, but I'm gonna go ahead and use this anyway.

y question is this: Why did they add those bosses? I've never seen any original photos of bikes that had dual brakes. Did European models have the caliper on the left side, or dual brakes?

Just curious.

Oh, if this is the wrong forum for this, I apologize. Wasn't quite sure where to put it.

The same fork stanchion was used for a variety of madels including those which had the brake mounted on either side. SR 500 is one that comes to mind. Also makes a dual disc set up possible.
