Are you sure you want to pay that much? I got 2 aftermarket Harley coils off eBay so far, one for $14 and the other for $26. Granted, they didn't come with wires or mounting hardware but $70 to $80 seems like a lot for that stuff.

Dual output single coils are simple to hook up. They have no polarity or + and - terminals so you can hook either wire to either screw. Current will flow through the coil in one direction with the wires hooked up one way, the opposite direction if they're swapped. Sometimes a timing light will act funky if the current flows one way. If that's a problem, simply swap the wires.

The coil you're looking at has a 3 ohm primary resistance rating and would only be suitable for an electronic ignition. If you have points, you'll need a coil with a 4 or 5 ohm primary resistance rating.

The Accel 140403S is a very good coil. As 5twins mentioned, its a little on the expensive side, but gives a great spark.

I noticed from one of your other posts, that you are using points ignition. I'm using this same coil with points. I installed a ballast resistor in series with the coil primary to reduce the current flow through the points. My first ballast resistor was 1.35 ohms, but presently have 0.67 ohms.

If you are going from stock 2 coil set-up, you will need to tie the 2 sets of points together in parallel, and just use one capacitor.

The Accel #25507, HD OEM #31609-65A or Custom Chrome #17130 will work with points, without need to use a ballast resistor.

This spring I'm switching over to the Pamco ignition.

Funny how in the ad they say 4 available but lower down it says "ITEM IS CURRENTLY ON NATIONAL BACKORDER- BUY NOW AND WE WILL SHIP AS SOON AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE."

To me that sounds like they are ordering them from someone else as they sell them, marking them up and reshipping them or just drop shipping. Aaah capitalism.

John, everyone knows that yellow makes these bikes go faster..............I know jayel agrees with me on that.

Back to the topic. Interex87; That coil you first mentioned on ebay is $94.95 plus $25.50 shipping for a total of $120.45. You would be much better off to buy the Pamco ignition kit from mikesxs for $129.00 with free shipping. With the Pamco, there's no more fiddling with points.

That's all you need as long as your advancer unit is working. The advancer is the weights and springs attached to the right side of the camshaft.
