Hi Riders.

I don't have an XS650, but am helping a young friend get a '75 XS into shape. I have never ridden any other vertical twin (more used to the in-line four on the Radian) and need to know the operating charateristics of the XS. Is this a high revver? Or is low end torque its ballgame? His seems to run out of pull at about 4.5k rpm. Feels like it runs best if shifted before 4k. Is that normal? Or is there an issue with this bike?

It has been sitting a long time. Carbs were cleaned and she fired right up, but I don't think they were sync'ed properly.

Great to find this community. Thanks in advance for the info.

While they will rev they are happier at the lower end of the range pulling high gear as low as 2k so i would say they are more about torque, shift where it feel comfortable for the application (open highway/in town) i had a old buddy who insisted his old iron head H-D sportster didn't need a tach you just wound it up until the handlebars felt like baseball bats then shifted it depends on what you are trying to do jayel

Okay...that helps a lot. I'll do more reading in the forum and I'll learn. Thanks for the help.

Hey Radianrider, welcome to the board. Also, would you happen to have an extra set of carbs for a radian laying around? I need a set for my '87 Radian.

Wulf,
Sorry to have been so long in responding to your question, been nuts around here and I didn't see your post until a minute ago.

Sorry, but I don't have any parts for it. Have you checked with the gang on the radian group on yahoogroups.com? Haven't been on with them for a long time, but they can find about anything (unless times have changed.)

Hope this helps.
