Rebuilding the petcocks on my 75 xs. How tight do you get the 2 screws the hold on the plate and lever. tightening them down all the way so the plate is down to the petcock, the lever will not turn. do you just use Loctite and run them down to hold the plate on and let the spring washer hold tension on the lever. doing this there is a gap between the plate and petcock, is this ok. xsthomas

Polish the face plate that turns on the rubber ......and grease the other frictional parts and some on the face plate too............

the plate should be flush or nearly so (screws down tight) you may be pinching the spring washer if your lever won't turn or with a new gasket they can be tight, try putting some light oil on the gasket

Ok now, what a dope. seems like with the clean lever and a new grommet and a new wave washer AND NO LUBRICANT, yes it was tight. seems like a little lube does the job. thanks for waking me up. xsthomas

Not a bad thing to be aware of. How often do you take them apart...not that often so thanks for bringing it up for the rest of us to be less troubled.
