Hey all,
y plan on the bike while turning it into a cafe is to mount the aftermarket gauges as low to the top of the tree as I can but it looks like I'll have to drop the headlight. The stock ears are in horrible shape so I'll have to replace them anyway. Has anyone lowered their headlight in the fork tubes? It looks like it will hit the lower triple tree if I go too far. Plue I'll probably have to remove the adjuster. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
-Jack

I think those are the brackets that I was looking at from mikesxs. Did you have to cut off the lower headlight adjuster? Or is that an aftermarket light?

Thats a LUCAS shell as fitted to Triumph/Norton etc. Much better than stock XS...More room inside..

I like it. And the idea of more room is great. Domi Racer is right down the street from me. I'll have to check with him. Thanks.

I scavenged a couple of sets of brackets from various dirt-bikes, Can-Am comes to mind. the ones on my current bitch are from a Suzuki trail-bike, late '70's.

I used the cheapie headlight ears and lowered the stock headlight. I mounted the stock gauge cluster on the bottom of the triple tree. That way, the headlight and gauges are lowered.

Wow! Your bike is beautiful. That a 750 tank? That is exactly waht I had planned on doing with the headlight and cluster. I love how it drops the headlight into the tank and seat line. I actually think the Special makes some of the best cafes. Thanks.

God, I love that bike ! Ive got a 750 tank in the shed , just need a seat & hopefully I'll have one close to looking that good in the spring... Gonna have wire wheels and front drum on mine though...Sick of the 'flat-tracker ' theme that everyone here in the UK goes for...

That is a REALLY sharp machine my friend. I'm usually into stockers but you did a fine job on that one. I see lots of blood sweat and tears in there...that whats make them pretty.

Just curious where did you get that seat/tailsection?? I am looking for a cafe racer seat to put on our yamaha and have been looking for a particular look.

The seat is from Omars. Kinda pricy, but a DAMN nice piece. Very heavy fiberglass, covered/padded seat included (though the seat is a little hard). I had to modify the mounting just a bit since I used the 750 tank, but with a stock tank it's super easy to mount.
I have abuild thread on the bike in this forum. Look for "The $100 Wonder". Complete build, including mounting the seat and tank.
And THANKS all!

I make & sell tracker seats for £35 - If I could get my hands on one of those Caf' seats (even a damaged one) Id start to make them for far less ! Anyone ?

scott,

I've seen your bike many times up close, in the flesh, but I'm still impressed when I see a photo of it. And, people probably don't know that it's ridden on a regular basis. It runs as good as it looks.
