I bought some new grips a wondered if any of you have a good method of sliding them on. I remember as a kid using a little soapy water to put new ones on my bicycle.

Hairspray.

It sounds ridiculous, but it's perfect. It acts a lubricant at first, but then gets stick and evaporates. My friends and I have changed countless grips with Aquanet.

You can't go wrong with Aquanet Extra Hold! Let it get a little tacky before you slide them on and make sure the bars are clean and residue-free. Wink

Man, the ultimate way to get them on or off is a jet of compressed air, works perfect, every time!
Who the hell uses hair spray anyway??????? Ya poofs!

How the hell are you going to get factory-glued grips off with compressed air! Rolling Eyes My compressor only goes to 200 PSI, and doubt if that would blow off grips! I've always had to cut them off.

Also, give us all an idea how you put grips ON with that method? And how does that get them to stick, anyway? Poof back at ya, dude! Twisted Evil

Compressed air works great- even with glued on grips. You use the air to inflate the grip, kinda hard to explain but easy to demonstrate- maybe someone can post a video.......... You cap off the opposite end of the bar and blow air into the hole in the end of the grip, only requires a few pounds of pressure.

I know for golf club grips you wind 2 sided tape on the metal and then use acetone in the grip. You pour some acetone on the tape to soften the glue and then slide the grip on. The acetone will evaporate and the glue takes hold. You need to cut the grips off.

The best way I've found is;
to remove: Use compressed air blower, peel grip back a bit, aim at inside end of grip, as you blow, grip will inflate and easily slide off.

Install is opposite, push grip on just a bit, insert blower in between grip and bar, pull the trigger and very easily it will push on.

I never use glue or such, just use very clean bars,(I use do lock wire, even on my road bike)) a little thinners will make the rubber stick well if needed, just be sure to wait a few hours before you use the bike.

There realy is no need for glue if they are properly installed, and bars ect are clean and in good nick

y compresser only goes up to 100 psi and its taken every one I've ever done! Rolling Eyes

Or you could use your boutique hair spray, that is if your flowing locks can survive without it!

Old trick....slipppery when wet, evaporates entirely and then holds with residual tack but is removable.....believe!

Windex..........that's all. Best, Blue
