|
I recently bought two project bikes to fix up and sell. Both are Yamaha 650 Specials one is a 81 and the other is 79.
I cant get the clutch to work on either one I can put it in a gear but when I pull the clutch the wheel still wont spin freely. Is this anything major? A friend of mine thought it might just be because they have been sitting for awhile and we will be able to get them to free up when we get them running?
They have both been sitting for a long time. dont know how long but the tags on one were last renewed in 83 and the tags on the other were renewed in 2001. The engine was even seized a little on one because the carbs had been off of it.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance for any help...
I'm a new poster, but this forum looks really good and I look forward to getting lots of good help here

With the motor off, tranny in gear, and clutch pulled, that's kind of normal on these bikes. There's a lot of drag between the clutch plates. Try it again once you get the motor(s) running and it might be OK. On the other hand, the plates may be stuck more than usual from sitting so long. Kick the bike over with the clutch pulled in and that should free them up.

I bought a '72 in October. Just now getting to replacing the broken clutch cable and I had the same question. After I replaced it mine would not turn freely either. Who knows how long this one has been sitting. Glad you guys are out there with on-hands expierience.
