I changed my clutch plates and re-inserted the kicker shaft etc. Checked before i put the cover on (even pulled it apart again, pulled the kicker out and did it again) it sprang back fine. Put the new oil seal in and put the cover back on and now it wont return after i kick it. Are these oil seals real tight for a while or what? it engages fine every time and will start the bike. It worked fine before i had this thing apart. (no oil seal at all so it always leaked) grrr.

hook spring on top piece, then put other piece into notch in case, spin half to 3/4 turn with kicker CCW (same way you kick it) and it will slip all the way in...correct? i did this twice and it engages everytime and returns with cover off. but won't return with cover on....

here's how I did it......I started with the clip in the groove and with the shaft already at the final position. then I took pliers and pulled the spring clockwise back up to hook it on the top piece. then push the whole shaft as far as it will go. If it doesn't wobble, then it's good. just make sure the clip is still in the groove.
