Well I am rather new to these forums as well as owning a motorcycle. My father rode Harleys back in the 60's (drugs sex and rock and roll kinda deal). With his two choppers and one trike in pieces and garaged he now rides a 1977 BMW 750r. My younger sister has been riding her Kawasaki 250 for 2 or 3 years. Now I to own a motorcycle and it happens to be a 1977 Yamaha xs650 standard which i picked up earlier this summer.

This is what i got

and it now looks like this

So far this is a list of what I have done

xs750/850 tank (i kept seeing British guys with British bikes putting the British flag on their tank.... being a 100% 4th gen Japanese i figured why not paint a Japanese flag on my Japanese bike)
clubman bars
barend mirrors
cafe style seat modified to work with the tank
took the front and rear fender
changed the brake light
swapped out the chrome chain guard and turns to black ones
changed the gauge cluster and headlight and mounting ears
18" rear and 19" front aluminum 36 spoke rims
new tubes, pads front and rear, and gaskets here and there
Dunlop d404 tires

There are still a few other things I have in mind such as getting cleaning up the electrical and repainting a few used items.

urbandork, thanks for the comps man.

romer, it is a hap jones style peanut tank. the filler cap is off center. the centered caps are on the wassel tanks from what I understand. I like the size on the bike also. fits nicely. the thing is these bikes are fairly small so you have to really keep that in mind so you get a good looking, proportionate bike in the end. at least that is how i see it.

Nice ride.

I too am using an XS750 tank with Mikes seat. How did you mod the seat?

- chop the front of the seat off and maintain the stock hinges?
- move the seat back and modify the hinges an attachment?

Any detail and problems you encountered with the seat would be helpful.

Thanks

I'm more interested in your electrical/battery box Shocked

What can you tell me about it?

well, I wanted to use the existing battery box and i will use the attached small toolbox for the wiring. The stock box is welded to the frame. I made the side covers, one on each side. They bolt to the battery box at the front and bolt to tabs welded to the frame at the rear. pretty easy really and cleans it up really nice. I removed a bunch of tabs and such from the frame to clean it up also around that area of the frame.
