i am building a 73 CB500/4 cafe racer, but pipes are stupid expensive for it. My stock head pipes are still good, but the mufflers are rusted to s***. Can you weld onto these and re-used them? guy at one local shop said it weld doesn't stick overly well to them..? all i wanna do is go 4into1 with a generic muffler on the back. (just go to the custom bike shop here and get them to make the last half of it for me)

you can weld them but it will ruin the chrome in that area, the bigger problem is the inner and outer pipes are slightly different bends to go to the two sides, I don't think they will line up enough to go into 4/1, doesn't the 550/4 use the same pipes? have you checked e-bay for a set?

might want to ask around on some of the Honda forums you might find a set

I don't think you could make a 4-1 out of a 4-4.
You may be able to find 2 into 1 adapters; cut off the mufflers and convert it into a 4into 2 system. Cycle exchange may have the adapters, when I investigated this option for my 350f I found a local muffler shop that could fab them. 500/4 would look great with a pair of peashooters angled up. you could hang them from the passenger pegs.
I eventually found a NOS Hooker 4-1 on ebay, they do come up, old MC parts systems as well. Much nicer than a modern MAC; well worth being waiting for.
Nice bike! I think 500/4's are one of the nicest looking sohc4's, great tank and a good stance, not too wide.
