I recently aquired a 78 im turning into a bobber project, it has the clamp on filters on the carbs instead of the airbox....on the back of each of the clamp ons there is a tube going from a fitting on the filter to the top of the motor area...i dont really know how engines work...but im guessing its some sort of vaccume tube. But i noticed some of the clamp ons for sale dont have these fittings on the back of them...so are these two hoses nessicary?? thanks for any help

Breather tubes, absolutely required. But if they don't look good in the filter you can route them elsewhere

where else could you route them??? im actuallyl running into clearence issues with my battery/electrical box...the filters themselves clear the box, but the plastic fittings that go on the end of the clamp on filters for the breather hose hit the box when i try to mount them...and ive messed around with quads back in the day, and ive never seen a carb assembly so hard to clamp back onto the motor...damn thing keeps slipping off on me!

650rider.com/index.php...cuum+brake
I went with the vacuum check valve setting over my K&N pods. But if I was going for a cleaner look in the space around the carbs I would have put in a T to connect the 2 breather hoses and routed up under the tank, and then down the frame with a single hose to the ground.
