Well I 'm sure many of you have gotten the emails from Mike"mercury" Morris about the old testing notes that have been shared and the performance head work for $1300. Some thoughts? Has any one had this done? I can't see putting a 1300 dollar head om my 700 dollar bike, can you?

For those that desire a strong runner on a track it might be the way to go.
I'm not in the race class of rider though. Unless you count making the Harleys work for it off the line from a stop light. Damn but don't they hate to be on the tailight side of a 650.

Also note the price does not include springs, collars, retainers, oil seals, shims or keepers. Factor in all that plus a performance cam and you are probably close to $1800 before you are ready to smoke the rear tire off the bike.................BG

He hasn't posted the price for just cutting the head yet, how much did he quote you? There is a big discussion of this on the 650 Garage web site.

copy/paste for BiffTirkle ... from Aug 2

Here's an update. ..
First of all, thanks for the feedback. It has been very helpful.
The idea of the complete replica, no compromise head was to provide anyone who wanted maximum performance with a highly evolved solution that hasn't been available for many, many years. We never thought the market would be large, and though we have sold, I think, about 50 as of this moment, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't sell the entire allotment of 75.
I really have been sensitive to those of you who have the interest, connections and in some cases the personal skills to do many of the functions typically associated with a head, such as installing guides, doing some shaping of the ports, etc., obtaining a high end valve job, hand blending, and the like.
So, now that we've addressed the maximum performance crowd, I have just gotten off the phone with the CNC vendor and he is willing to do some "port only" heads. He can fit these in because they don't require too many shop labor hours from manpower he is currently short of. I am awaiting his written quotes so we can set a price, but it will be WAAAAY less.
I will have to update the manual to reflect these changes, and that may require some comparative flow analysis, but even if that is the case, it won't take all that long.
The sequence will be that the "port only" option will be offered as quickly as possible, and once that runs its course the manual alone will be offered.
I'll keep you all informed as we work through this.
Regards,
Craig
