In the manual it has two types of fork oil for UK & US model 650s
I wonder what the difference between them

Damping oil grade:
UK Model 10W30 SE motor oil
US Model 'l0W fork oil












10W30 SE motor oil
'l0W fork oil

It probably has to do with the seals and how they react with the oil - that would be my best guess at least.

Years ago, specific fork oil wasn't as readily available as it is today. Many manufacturers recommended something besides it for their forks back then. BMW used to spec Shell Aero for theirs which was an aviation hydraulic oil. We never heard of that stuff in the states and just used about a 5wt. fork oil. Today, I really think there's no excuse for not using a real fork oil. They're easy to get and are designed for fork use with special additives. The demands of a fork as opposed to an engine are totally different.
