single throttle cable

I have a 72 xs 650. I bought it as a basket case, and wow this basket is full. I do not know alot about throttles and cables, but this bike ,which is currantly not running, has a single cable throttle on it. It has no cables so I do not know if this setup will work or not. It makes the bars look pretty neat andI would like to use it if possible. Any ideas would be appritiated.

its supposed to have one throttle cable, then down near the carbs the cable has a y in it and it splits into two

on my 75 it has two cables, one for each carb. the later models use a single cable to run both carbs. with the right boots you should be able to use a later model carb set. you can also get a single too dual cable setup to use a stock dual carb/ cable setup.

The original set-up was 2 separate cables, not a 2 into 1, and both hooked into the twist grip. There was a freeplay adjuster on each cable so you could set them equally and sync your carbs.
