Im still trying to get my 1980xs fired up. I thought I cleaned out the carbs real good but maybe not. I still feel like fuel isnt getting to the motor, cause it fires with starter fuel then die. I set the floats to actually a bit over lever and still there is gas coming out of the right carb, could somthing else be the cause? They move up and down freely and i put new plungers in. Im gunna get some carb spray and clean the s*** out of the pilot jets again. Any ideas would be great. Oh yea, I got great spark.
Thanks Tom...

Floats at 27.5 MM if they are brass and the pilot circuit has 3 holes in the bore and the gas has to come out of these........xsjohn

I believe the most accurate way to set your float levels is with the carbs removed and mounted on a bench. Hang a temporary gas supply above the carbs. Drill a hole through a spare bowl drain plug and connect a barb and some plastic tubing. You can clearly see if you get it right, and would show if float valve is faulty.

If he has 80 model carbs don't they have a drain spigot on the bottom?
Also if they're 80 model would the o-ring on the intake needle seat be suspect? Finksies post a pic of these carbs with the bowl off maybe someone will spot the problem.

Take off the clip that holds the valve seat and check that oring. The seat will pull out it isnt threaded. It's that philips screw you see where the valve goes.

Wrap 6 or 8 turns of heavy thread around the edge of the o-ring in the grooveto slightly puff out the o-ring......bury the ends.......champhor the hole and using oil shove it in......permanent fix......do it on both carbs...........

well i didnt do the wrap trick, but I think the valve seat was the culprit. I took it out cleaned it up real nice with carb cleaner and shoved it back it. Doesnt piss out anymore. Bike still wont fire so I think Ill be heading to the electrical section next. thanks for the replies.

I don't see the rubber plugs for the pilots? The bowls should have a drain nipple you can slip a clear hose on to, check the level.

5/16 Oregon fuel line will screw in the drain plug hole. And seals pretty well for a level check. Notice I say pretty well. There will be a drip or three but no drilling, no spending hours trying find a brass fitting etc. I think I paid .82 cents for a foot of it at a small engine shop.
