case cover polishing?

Got a question , and i didnt know where the hell else to post this ....
Just about done with the bike and it comes down to the side covers on the case . Evidentally , factory put clear coat on these things , and we all know what that looks like years down the road .
I started to strip some of it off using an sos pad , but it was taking entirely . waaaay too long .
Is there some easier way to get thes back to chrome look finish , by means of chemical stripping , or something . ? and can it be done without removal from the bike ?

any advice would be greatly appriciated.

Got that baby out for 100 miles today .Damn i love this time of year .
Got 2 Avon Venom X tires going on it this weekend , cant wait to see how it handles .

You might try using one of the liquid paint strippers, but read the directions before you buy any. As I dimly recall, they recommend not to get it on aluminum.

I've been in the same boat, and I just toughed it out with emory cloth of varying grits, steel wool and Mother's polish. Lot of work and a few blisters in the process, but it got the job done.

Hope this boat is big enough.
Been cleaning mine up with 400 grit wet sand. Going to go a finer grit yet but was wondering about the final finish. Would anyone clear coat them again to keep the finish? If so what would you use?

powdercoat clear them. holds up great nd doesn't change the color of the polished part.

Wet sand them with 600 to 900 grit. Then use a mibro type polishing compound with a buffing wheel on your grinder or drill. It works awesome.

i used paint striper from home depot and wouldnt do it any other way now. It was eisier on the parts I took off the bike.

popping of the left cover off isn't to hard, wait till you need to change oil to pull the right cover off, cause your gonna have to drain the oil when that one comes off.
