Got my belt drive done today. Put about 40 miles on it. So far so good. Seems to have less vibration.

Yes cover fit fine. Thanks for the compliment! I have to admit that I feel pretty good that I actually pulled it off and made it work.

Nice job..................great workmanship. No more chain slack adjustments, no more spraying chain lube.............looks like more free time for beer drinking.........can life get any better than that!

I like the paint job too! I understand the HD belts have Kevlar in them? A friend broke his. Claimed he was hot rodding. I said it was pulling too much WEIGHT! HD charges like $500 to replace it. Anything in your new belt? What I mean is what makes it strong? You did a fine job. Have you got some whole bike pics we could see?

well done, i have a harley and i am thinking about changing to a chain just so i can fix it if it breaks. with the set up you have you don't have to take the whole primary off to change belts.

The HD belts are pretty freakin tough / strong. I had close to 50,000 miles on my 87 heritage softail. Had a 96 CI performance motor, bags, pulled a trailer, 2 up riding etc. 42 states coast to coast & border to border. Did wheelies and holeshots all the time. Generally the only ones I've seen break where from debris. It's a big deal to change on on an HD. have remove primary, clutch, swingarm etc. It would an hour or so on my XS.
The belt is rated for a higher HP than my XS will make. There are some whole bike pics on here in my gallery. I've got some better ones I need to post. Also some under "My chopper build" thread.

WOW!
Very nice job!
That's exactly what I've been wanting to do. Can you give any details?
What did you use for sprockets?
Did you weld a belt sprocket to an old chain srpocket? (that's what I had in mind)
What belt?
What ratio were you able to get? Were other ratios easily available?
What modification did you have to do with the swing arm? (looks like just a little sprocket clearance)
No belt tensioner needed?
Thanks for any info.
Al
