I'm curious what year sissy bar will fit a '80 Special? Is it only years '80 and up or will some in the '70's also fit? I wanna put a sissy bar with a high back to support my king/queen seat and I can only find bars from 1978. Any input would be appreciated - thanks.

northernplains these bikes are so old the chances of finding a mass produced sissybar except by accident is very small you'll probably have to make your own, they just don't stock parts for 30 year old bikes, who'd a thunk it?

I realize they don't stock part for this bike but on eBay, as you know, people sell alotta things including bars from their xs650. I'm unsure if the holes from the '70s bars line up with my 1980 model. I know several things changed in from 197- to 1980 so I'm curious.

I have an 80 and the sissy bar is completely diferent up to 79 i think. An 80 or newer might work.

Is there anyone who can give a definitive answer? I am looking at different sissybars, and I find stuff with dates listing 79-83 and 74-78. Was there a cuttoff point after 78 in which all bars after are compatible with an 81?

The '80 and '81 sissybars would fit on either bike if it wasn't for the placement of the turn signals. They are mounted on opposite sides of the rear mounting bolt. If you have a chrome shop near you, you could probably make the small modification, but I would just buy one off of an '80.

I have a sissybar laying around that I bought for my '81 that came off of an '80. If you might be interested, send me a pm. We might be able to work something out.

I have a tall sissy bar on the '78 Special I just bought. I have no intention of using it, and would be happy to send it your way for shipping plus whatever you think its worth. You can see it in the pic:

Thanks for the offer but your sissy bar won't fit with my king/queen seat. Below is a picture of my '80 650 and another picture of a sissy bar that I'm looking for. I'm still keeping an eye out on eBay but nothing yet. Thanks again.
