I am in the process of building a 650 bobber

I am having the frame custom build
using a wide glide front end
21" front & 16" rear wheels

i will not be using the any of the original frame (so i can pretty much weld mounts wherever i want).
what route should i go for forward controls?
are there universal kits out there that will work or should i go with one of the kits made for the xs650?

If building from scratch and wanting forward controls I would build around a stock HD big twin setup. You've got infinite possibilities from stock to aftermarket to use. Hit a swap meet or eBay. But then I'm an old Harley guy and had alot of parts around.

As my project continues it seems like theres a an array of harley parts out there:

wide glide front end donated by my father from his fatboy
harley 40 spoked wheels found on craigslist
sporty tank found on craigslist

it looks like ill keep searching craigslist & ebay for used harley forward controls.

next sub-project is a rear disc brake assembly that fits my 16" rear wheel.

The brake should be an easy find as well since it's an HD wheel. You will probably have to a rear sprocket made as an XS is 34 teeth compared to an HD of 48 teeth.

Not without some machine work. And I'm not sure that the XS sprocket has material in the right places to be removed to fit an HD wheel, I hope that makes sense.

do you know if harley makes a smaller sprocket that would work? if not what suggestions do you have for finding a sprocket that will both fit my wheel and work with my 650 motor?

thanks

its crazy how much the little stuff starts to accumulate when doing a custom build. in a way it feels like im defeating the purpose and true definition of a "bobber", but i know in the end im going to have a original ride i can take pride in, and a lot more knowledge for the next build.
