I am building a cafe style xs 650. I have acquired an XS 750 tank for this project. I want to find some tank knee pads but the ones I've seen so far either they don't follow the lines of the tank or have another manufacturers logo such as (honda) embossed in the rubber. Has anyone made their own tank knee pads out of rubber? If anyone has been down this road I would like to get your input as to what material you used such as thickness etc.

I have seen a tank that they sprayed Rhino Liner in the shape they wanted for knee pads and it looked great, durable as heck, but you can't get it off without ruining the paint if you ever decide you want it off.

Check around on the net ( im sure you have already) but there are a couple of bike part places that have universals that come a bit oversized that you can trim to fit the lines. OldBikeBarn has some i believe, at least they used to...

Here's a pic of my bike with some Yamaha knee pads that I picked up from the local salvage yard for $10, They have the Yamaha emblem on the inside, but I don't know what bike they're originally from. Keep checking eBay.

Home depot sells black rubber carpet runner for high traffic area. Cheap, cut it to any size you want, no emblem, what more could you want?

What kind of adhesive would you use to keep these on the tank?

Made these knee pads for a 750 tank out of a car floor mat from canadian tire, fit was almost perfect for the scalloped sides, only a little trimming needed. tank is painted with truck bed line btw. No pics yet of it on bike, just did it today, but the ribs really match the cooling fins on the engine.
