Ok heres my question. Can someone please help? I want to run a drum brake on the front of my '74 xs650 for the old school bobber look. I saw a guy who used an xs400 front wheel. Heres the link www.cvsoftware.com/bobber/pp.htm
As you can see on the one picture it says "18 inch front wheel (from a xs400) with drum break...SCHWING". So I went and bought a ceazed up xs400. First I tried to use the forks and wheel from the xs400. The problem with that is those forks are 33mm not 34mm. Also the are about 1/2" closer together on the xs400. It looks like this guy used the xs650 front forks and just the wheel from the xs400 but the axel for the 650 wont go through the xs400 wheel. Do I have to make my own axel maybe? Any help on this would be great

Are there the same number of spokes? if yes the wheel will work the easiest thing to do is have the center of the hub drilled to accept the stock xs axle. This is one option. I have seen guys use the axle from the xs400 with a sleeve milled from billet to make up the space where the axle bolts to the forks. Either way is Not really an issue. the only thing you need to worry about is the length and angle of the spokes are you going to do the same pattern or are you going to get fancy. I know buchannan's in California does a good job I do not know how long they take but if you get the hub drilled for the axle then just send them the hub and axle you will be all set they worry about lenght and angle and pattern.

Spoke pattern/number is the same, but the 400 is a puny brake, much better to fit the XS1 drum, thats what Ive got on two of mine , theyre just as powerful (in my opinion) as the single disc set-up but look sooo good!
