I've now removed the light checker in addition to the Reserve Lighting Unit and the Turn Signal Cancelling Unit. Blue/black to blue/yellow connections were made when the RLU was removed. Blue/black to blue/black disconnected at the Safety Relay (to enable lights on/off via switch only.
I find that the tailight blue feed wire needs now to be connected to something (other than the light checker) and I assumed that to either the blue/yellow of the main switch ciruit or the lighting dimmer circuit would work???
Question 1: Is there good reason to go one way or the other?
Question 2: Is there anything that need be done re connections of the
now going nowhere brown and red/white wires to the old light
checker plug?
I'm hoping to keep the safety relay in circuit to the starter and kill switches.
Found plenty on removing the RLU and TSCU but no notes re the eliminating the light checker...........Thanks, Blue

I'd just tie it in with the instrument lights (Blue or Blue/Black) and just tape off the extra wires
---"but no notes re the eliminating the light checker"--- I guess that means you're the resident expert now, lol

Just did that, Jayel ......(blues, blue/black (meter lights and tail light) are now tied in together to the light dimmer circuit blue/yellow under the tank. checked it out works fine and now have a tail light that also goes on/off via light switch only (as opposed to the keyed main switch) just like the headlight........voila!!! I guess that would make me the 650 light checker elimination guru as you say.......IF......it weren't for the fact that almost everything I've done is per your 'how to' instructions. (I won't tell you if you don't).
Anyway "Ichi Belle" is now a SIMPLA FIed Cobalt Blue 78 2FO and everything's working well. No TSCU, NO RLU, NO LCU and lots of pretty colored wires laying about. Wiring is actually now very close to your TX "chopper version" diagram. Love those Posi-Locks btw
any thanks, Blue

voodoo electrical box on late models that lit up a warning lamp on the instrument panel if your tail, brake, or headlight was blown out

Below was a thread on the subject a couple years back.

Link below has instructions on how to eliminate properly.

The "light checker unit" is an encapsulated unit about the same size as the Turn Signal Canceling Unit that is clipped in similarly behind and under the tool kit space of 78,79, Specials. It works in conjunction with the Reserve Lighting Unit and lights up the "tail light/brake light" out, "hi beam" out, etc. warning lights in the event of failures. With the RLU and TSCU eliminated there's little need for it in my view and/or it's 8 wires. That's three connector blocks and 20 + pretty colored wires gone and potential problems GONE
Besides..... even in my diminished state I think I can still tell when the headlamp's out, ditto the tail and brake lights and I'm still just barely able to push the turn signals switch in to cancel the turn signals. Now I'm both the "Light Checker" and a "Self Canceling" unit as well. Just like you and thousands of other bikers.
Isn't that just ........"Special"?

Well i hope all this info helps me, so far it looks like it is going to. My headlight wasnt working right so i got rid of the reserve lighting unit my headlights works fine now. On to the taillight now which hasnt been working...stoplight works fine but no tail light. So i am going to do away with the light checker and see if that cures it. Thanks for all the information on this topic.
