I have both, they are really helpful but the Clymer is just that bit better only my opinion though,in the end it is up to you Clymer is a little clearer in it's overall presentation.
Good Luck

Right you are, Yama. Both contain quite a few omissions, however; no mention, for instance, of the index marks on the clutch plate, errors in spec. on clutch plate configuration, poor data on clutch spacer and thrust washer sequence, and no data on differences in pilot jet series, for starters. Much of the information that's missing or incorrect in Clymer is given or corrected in the catalogue from Mike's XS. It's a really valuable supplement.

kuna is correct, try ebay, if you go to motorcycle parts, click on asian and type in xs 650 there is a guy that sells them for the computer on a disk, you get 4 factory manuals covering all years of the xs650, plus a bunch of extra info he throws in for around nine dollars, you can't beat it! pop it in your computer look up what you want and print out what you need. you don,t have to worry about gettin the manual all greasy as you can print it out as and when you need it. i'm a newbie and this has been the best buy i have made since i started building my bike.

i'm also gonna order the book from mikes, i've made several on-line orders so far and have been very pleased, but if grizld1 says you need one take it to heart he knows his stuff and has been a integral part in getting my bike running

Don't know if Mike's still prints the paper catalogue, but information on which pilots/needle jets/slides fit which carbs, clutch plate configuration differences in 70-79 vs 80-82 units, and maintenance tips are in the on-line catalogue too, and can be printed out. Another excellent resource is www.motorcyclecarbs.com. All 5 carb. bodies fitted to the XS650 are listed with complete year-by-year component specs. and identifying characteristics.

Hey Kuna I'd love to find the guy who sells the disc's on Ebay. I didn't have any luck finding them doing a search, you don't happen to have a link?

i don't have a link but the guy uses the name "more-kewl-stuff" if you log onto ebay and get inte motorcycle parts look on the left of the screen and you will see where it says american, asian, etc. click on asian. when that comes up to the left of the word asian at the top it will let you type in what you are looking for, type in xs650 and it will bring it up. then scroll till you find it. if you still can't find it send me a PM with your e-mail and i will send it to you. you might have to do that as i know i am sh***y with directions, as a matter of fact it will be easier that way, just pm me your e-mail and i'll send the ad right to you.

I've got both Haynes and Clymer but overall I prefer the Haynes. If I had an early model the Clymer'd be fine though many of the drawings are pretty shaky.
