Got an 83 that I am in the process of converting into a street tracker look.
Questions?
-How do I lower the front and rear end?
-What is a good amount to lower the bike?
-Where can I get rear shocks to lower the rear?
Thanks.

I took my rear spring off and cut a bit of the coil and heated and bent the cut portion and ground it a bit to flatten it back out...Then paint...Does reduce travel but doesn't cost anything..... Fronts just raise the tubes in the clamps which will lower the front.....A too low front makes the bike dive into the turns and handles bad........

Most streettrackers sit higher than oem. You can get alittle by loosen up the tree bolts and sliding the forks up, or a set of springs. On the rear, shorter shocks. What body work do you have on the rear?

Thanks fellas. Just looking for ideas/info right now. Got a seat from Hotwingglass, not the one with the side panels so it doesn't interfer with the rear shock mounts.

I always take the shocks apart and use the shock body as a strut. Makes it nice n low out back. To clear shockmounts I just grind away any fiberglass around the mounting area from the seat. A dremel works good for that kind of work. Just work carefully.

JC whitney sells lowering shackles for the rear, and the front can be lowered by taking off the tube caps and pulling the metal spacers out and replace with PVC pipe cut to the length you wish. I would suggest adding a washer between the PVC and the top of the spring.

If you look at my gallery, my '75 has the lowering shackles, and has been lowered about 2" in the front.

Mine runs a 18" rear wheel, 19" front. I have a set of S&W shocks (stock length) in back and the front tubes are dropped just about 1 inch in the tree.
The bike handles well on the street. I slid it a bit too and it gets it on.
